Dress Code


Newton County STEAM Academy Uniform Dress Code


The NCSA Dress Code has been updated as of 7/8/2024. 


Shirts

  • Solid navy, red, or white short or long sleeve polo or long sleeve turtleneck. 
  • Only the Newton County STEAM Academy school emblems or logos are acceptable. No other form of print should be on the outside of clothing.
  • Undergarments including “Under Armor” are prohibited as outer wear. 


Pants, Shorts, Skirts, Skorts, and Jumpers

  • Solid tan, khaki or navy flat-front or pleated school uniform pants, shorts, skirts, skorts, or jumpers.  Cargo-style bottoms are approved. 
  • No oversized clothing, blue jeans or jean style pants.  No sweatpants. 
  • Pants and/or other applicable items must fit at the waist. 
  • Shorts, skirts, skorts, and jumpers should be no shorter than 2” above the knee.
  • Leggings with pants, dresses, skirts and shirts/blouses- the length of shirts/blouses must meet the same requirements as pants, skirts or dresses. 


Socks and Tights (standard and footless)

  • Socks and tights must be solid navy, red, or white, black or khaki. 


Shoes

  • Athletic shoes, of any type or brand, may be any color.
  • All other shoes must be solid white, brown, black, navy, red or gray. 
  • No boots, sandals, open-toed shoes, open-backed shoes or flip-flop sandals are allowed. Shoes that light-up or blink, “Heelies” and/or skate shoes are prohibited. 


Belts

  • Black or brown belts are encouraged to be worn if uniform bottom has belt loops. 
  • Belts are optional for all students; however, if a student tucks in his/her shirt in grades 3-8, a black or brown belt is required. 


Sweaters

  • Solid navy, red or white.
  • Sweaters may be cardigan, pullover, v-neck or crew, full or vest. 


Sweatshirts/Hoodies

  • Solid navy, red or white.  Zipper or pull-over. 
  • Only official Newton County STEAM Academy school emblems or logos are acceptable. No other form of print is allowed.
  • Hoodies may be worn daily.
  • The hood covering may not be worn indoors.
  • Any shirt worn under the hoodie must be a school uniform dress-code shirt.


Outerwear

  • Solid navy is encouraged, but outerwear is acceptable in any color. 
  • Outerwear (jackets, sweaters and coats) may only be worn outside the school building. 


Headwear and Hair Accessories

  • No headwear (such as headscarves, hats, bandanas, sweatbands or head wraps) is allowed in the building except for religious or medical reasons, with approval from the school administration.
  • Hair bows, beads, clips or head bands must be red, white, navy, black or clear. 


Spirit Days

  • NCSA t-shirt or a solid red, navy, or white logo-free t-shirt with jeans, jean shorts, khaki or navy pants or shorts.
  • School Club & School Team apparel may only be worn on game/club days and/or spirit days.


Other uniform sources (non-logo) include Wal-Mart, Target, Old Navy, JCPenney, Sears and The Children’s Place.

No extremes in dress and/ or grooming will be permitted. Examples include, but are not limited to, unusual, unnatural, or extremes in hair color and/or hair accessories. School administrators and their designees will determine appropriateness of attire. Clarification of any of these guidelines will be made as needed by an administrator.
